Alarm signals to watch out for
- If someone starts talking about their deep feelings very quickly and everything (including the photo) seems almost too perfect.
- If someone contradicts himself/herself, does not answer questions properly or encounters difficulties when asked for details.
- If, even though you have been in contact for a while, the other person never allows you to visit him/her at home or call on the telephone landline - this is often a sign for someone who is deceiving their partner or spouse.
- You receive a written communication (in English) from a supposed businessman who is active on a global basis. It could be true, but unfortunately it is one of the favourite 'disguises' of scammer operating from abroad.
- You are asked, indirectly or subliminally, for money (for travel, to help out in the case of bad fortune, to pay for a stay in hospital ...). Even if you have been in contact for a while, this should ring alarm bells.
