Safety and security

How do I protect myself on the first phone call?

- If you are making the call, switch off transmission of caller number.

- Don't pass on your private landline number, since your address can then be tracked via various Internet services.

- It is better to supply your office number or your mobile number. Watch out, though, since, through a reverse search, your name and address can be traced via some mobile numbers. Ask your service provider about this and, if necessary, use another number.

- Take care not to give away your surname on your voicemail message.

- A very safe route is to phone from a friend's or colleague's number and tell the person you are calling that you are doing this. Or get a prepaid card from you mobile provider - a phone number that you use only for your online contacts.
